Introduction

Ken and Rhoda, a couple who operate a business in the NDIS space, approached us with a request for a specialized living environment that would enable them to house their clients comfortably and independently. They were seeking a home that not only met their clients’ needs but also anticipated future requirements as they aged or occupants changed. After evaluating their preferences and requirements, we designed and built an LHA Supported Independent Living GOLD home tailored to their needs.

Design and Planning

  • Expertise in Stump Homes: Recognizing that not all builders have experience with stump homes, Zeal Homes utilized their specialized knowledge in constructing an elevated structure. This expertise was crucial in ensuring the granny flat was built to withstand potential flood conditions while maintaining structural integrity.

Accessibility Features:

  • Entrances and Exits: The home features a zero-step entry, wide doorways, and hallways to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers.

  • Flooring: Non-slip, seamless flooring was installed throughout the home to prevent falls.

  • Bathrooms: Accessible bathrooms with grab bars, walk-in showers with bench seating, and adjustable-height sinks were included.

  • Kitchens: Countertops and appliances were designed with adjustable heights and easy-to-reach controls.

  • Ergonomic design: cabinetry, plumbing and electrical items at safe and accessible heights and durability and tactile attributes

  • Lighting: Motion-sensor lighting was installed in key areas to ensure visibility during the night.

  • Smart Home Technology: The home features smart thermostats, automated lighting, and security systems that can be controlled remotely

Comfort and Convenience:

  • Climate Control: Energy-efficient HVAC systems were installed to maintain a comfortable living environment.

  • Living Spaces: The design includes spacious, well-lit living areas and private, cozy bedrooms.

  • Storage: Ample storage solutions were integrated throughout the home to help manage everyday items easily.

Future-Proofing:

  • Adaptable Spaces: Certain rooms were designed to be easily adaptable for future needs, such as a potential home office or medical space.
