Client Profile: Nga, Thao and Phuong

A mother and her two daughters approached us with a vision for a multigenerational home that would accommodate their unique lifestyles while taking full advantage of the scenic, downward-sloping site in Burleigh Heads.

The Challenge

The site’s steep gradient presented both opportunities and challenges. The design needed to maximize the breathtaking views while ensuring the home catered to the distinct needs of each generation. Flexibility, privacy, and accessibility were paramount to meet the client’s request for a dual-living arrangement.

The Solution

1. Upper Level: A Shared Haven with Personal Touches
  • Two bedrooms, each with direct access to a shared ensuite, were designed for the mother and one daughter.
  • An open-plan living, kitchen, and dining area fosters family togetherness and flows out to a rear balcony, offering serene views and ample natural light.
  • This level serves as the main hub, with spaces thoughtfully arranged to encourage interaction while maintaining individual privacy.
2. Lower Level: A Self-Contained Retreat
  • A fully equipped 3-bedroom granny flat occupies the lower level, providing independence for guests or other family members and their needs.
  • This space features a rumpus room, a bathroom, and a private entry door, enabling dual living.
  • The layout balances functionality and comfort, ideal for hosting guests or future adaptability.

Design Highlights

  • Dual Access: The design accommodates dual-living requirements through separate entry points and clearly defined spaces.

  • Adaptability: Future-proofing was a key consideration, ensuring the home can evolve with the family’s changing needs.

  • Connection with Nature: The rear balcony and strategic window placements maximize natural light and highlight the site’s stunning vistas.

  • Sustainability: The home incorporates energy-efficient features that enhance thermal performance and reduce environmental impact.

Client Feedback

“The mother and her daughters were thrilled with the result, praising the home’s functionality, aesthetic appeal, and the balance of shared and private spaces. The layout fosters their sense of togetherness while respecting individual needs.”
